A Letter from Lola

May 19, 2020 by pinssneedles

I got some amazing mail this week. You’ll never believe the treasures I got from Lola!
Lola says:

I read earlier this year you wanted more letters this year. You posted your address- my in-law’s former address. They lived there from 1976?-2000? These are some photos I found of the house.

That’s right: Someone happened upon my blog from my mom’s blog and recognized my address. She even sent me pictures of how my house used to look.

I thought it would be fun to do a post with updated pictures so Lola and her family can see how the house is doing.

We purchased our house in March of 2013 and have been doing little projects here and there ever since. We really like our home and our neighborhood. We chose our town because it was halfway between our two jobs. Now my job is different so we are considering a move in the next five-ish years. We wish we could just pick up our block and plop it closer to where we need to be. It has been such a nice home for us.

A view of the beautiful backyard garden:

Here is the view today. I have to admit that my garden has never been as neat as the one in the picture, but I try every year. This year because of the new baby I am taking a break from intense gardening and just having a squash patch. It will be easier to till between.

We were wondering what the big hole in the yard was from. It looks like there used to be a beautiful tree! We filled the hole with a fire pit.

Lola says:

Grandpa loved to garden. Are the gooseberry bushes still behind the garage?

When we moved in there was a gravel patch behind the garage for parking an RV. We removed it and put a garden in. Incidentally, we planted fruit bushes all around, including gooseberries. We have haskap, juneberry, currants, and a peach tree.

Here is a view of the front of the house:

By the time we moved in the landscaping was overgrown so we pulled it all out and started over. Everything else looks very similar.

Here is a view of the kitchen:

We just finished a kitchen facelift so we could have a dishwasher, which I will share in a future post. We kept the trusty cabinets and just got a new countertop and appliances.

Here is the back of the house:

That little pine tree in the front of this picture is now huge. One of the first things we did when we moved in was close in the bathroom window and put in a shower.

Thank you so much, Lola. These photos are such a treasure and Spencer and I just loved them! I hope you like what we have done with the place.

Thank you for sharing pictures of the house today.
Grandpa and Grandma loved it there. Our family is thrilled to see it being so well taken care of.

What a fun trip down memory lane for both of you and Lola family. I can see that siding and new roof happened on the house and it sure was fun to see all of the old and new pictures. I once went home to the house that I grew up in Minnesota and I was so disappointed, it was shocking how shabby the place had gotten. This is a home that is loved and it shows.
