These quick and simple to crochet chevron hats are my favorite for donating! Scrap yarn makes great stripes, or choose a trendy gray-and-white color scheme. It is easy to make them for special events and themes by just changing up the colors.
A pom pom would be a perfect addition, but check with the organization you are donating to first!

I’ll be donating the preemie-newborn sizes of these hats to The Preemie Project’s Boo in the NICU event, the purple hats to Click for Babies, and the larger sizes will be sent to Emily’s Hats for Hope. Please consider making a donation as well!
I love free crochet patterns.
I need help as I have come across the toddler pattern between rows 3 and 4 doesn’t work up correctly. Is there are correction?
Questions have been asked about Round 3 working out to become 40 stitches… A 2-dc group is worked in between each dc of Round 2. The V-stitch pattern has not been formed yet, so do not skip 2 dc as for the pattern. I hope this description is more helpful!
I can not make this pattern work ! When making the toddler hat I can not get increased from 20 sts on Round 2 to 40 sts on round 3. Can you help? It looks like a awesome hat! Thanks

Is there way to increase to adult size?
I made this for my granddaughter and now my daughter wants a matching hat. Do you have the instructions for an adult size?
Hi there is there any chance that you can make some video tutorial for this pattern. I really like it….its awesome hat but i cant make it work. thank you
Ok I am trying to do a newborn but I cannot understand row 4. Thank you for your help,
[email protected] anybody!
I really love these little hats and wish I could understand the pattern! They’re so cute!
I don’t know why I can’t figure this out.
Maybe over thinking it, but I just cannot get it. I see no where it’s going to make a chevron pattern.
I’m ready to give up too. I tried for 5 hours last night.
What do MC and CC stand for, out of curiosity? I ended up having to diagram the preemie patterns, but I’ve got them working for me! Thanks for the pattern!
MC= Main Color and CC= Contrasting Color. I forgot to mention it!
I think MC stands for Main color and CC stands for Contrasting Color.
How can this be changed to an adult size? Thank you so much
Hi there, total beginner here. The thing that is throwing me is the slip stitch between the first and second dc. Does that mean your effectively skip the first dc each time? Thanks in advance!
Yes, you skip the first dc each round for the “V” effect.
Trying to make the 3-5 lb preemie hat, and round 3 just does not work.
I followed it twice, exactly as written, and end up with 26 stitches instead of 30. I even looked at the instructions for 2-3 lb preemie to see if there was maybe a typo, and they are written the exact same.
Can you clarify that round in any way? Or double check to make sure you wrote it out the way you meant to?
Never mind!
I got frustrated and put it down for a few minutes, and then when unpicked it up and read it again it turns out I was reading too fast and missed some details 🙂
All better now!
Why not for adults??????
I was browsing Ravelry and came upon your free ADORABLE pattern. I am a NICU nurse, and have been making my “signature” hat for a long time. I was looking for something new for my preemies/newborns. LOVE your pattern. Quick. Easy. Great instructions-no problem understanding. The parents love the hats, and they keep the tiny babies heads warm when out of the isolette.
Thanks for all you do, Karen!
For the child size, the end says to repeat round 7 twelve more times. The pattern only goes to round 6. I assumed it was supposed to be repeat round 6, but I wanted to make sure. Anyone else make this size and notice this?
Thank you in advance!
I’ve made the child size and the toddler size so far, luv’n this pattern thanks for sharing. It’s an easy pattern to follow, but it’s one you definitely have to count your stitches or you don’t get the correct increase for the sizing. I’ve had to frog now an then to get the correct stitches required but as long as I take my time and really focus on it it does work up on the easy side. An i luv the repeat of the stitches to work the last rows in they work up easy and fast. It’s a nice afternoon project that works up in 1-2 hours depending on how fast or slow I work up the pattern. My kids luv the design and have requested some in specific colors 🙂 now I just need to figure out how to make one for an adult so I can make me some too lol
I’m glad you like it!
I’m having trouble following the pattern as I find it not adding up properly. Are you able to post a video tutorial? Then I can figure out where I’m going wrong. It’s such a cute pattern I would love to recreate it.
Me gustan las intrucciones escritas y en gráfico, soy práctica, pero me co funden las abreviaturas dc, ch y otras, por favor pueden poner en español, por ejem., cadena, punto alto, punto bajo, punto deslizado, le agradecería infinitanente. Saludos.
Can you advise how you will add stitches to make a tween/teen size?
Making Toddler size. Every time I do row 4 for the Toddler pattern I do not get a stitch count of 48.
The closest i ever reached was 58 and then I still had some trouble reaching the end quite a few times. The repeat in parenthesis confuses me as there is already a repeat *asterisk inside the ().
So either I am counting the double crochet leg that holds the previous 2 stitches made when I skip 1 or 2 dc or I’m not counting that leg but I don’t which is correct.
